Environmental efforts undertaken by four local firms have been recognised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) during its inaugural Maritime SG Carbon50 Award presentation ceremony on Wednesday (6 April).

The recipients of the SG Carbon50 Award were: Hong Lam Marine Pte Ltd, Jurong Port Pte Ltd, Victory Pte Ltd, and Viswalab Pte Ltd.

The evaluation panel of MPA, Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) and Global Compact Network Singapore (GCNS) assessed the awardees based on the three main criteria of emission reduction, innovation and scalability.

“This accolade reaffirms them as organisations that drive environmental stewardship and recognises the progress made in integrating sustainability strategically into their core businesses,” said Mr Kenneth Lim, Assistant Chief Executive (Industry) of MPA.

“For example, Viswalab is exploring the use of biodegradable materials instead of plastic to produce sample bottles for fuel testing.

“Another example is the port-centric and steel ecosystem by Jurong Port to reduce the number of truck trips.

“Hong Lam Marine and Victory are also embarking on green initiatives such as the use of biofuels and regular hull cleaning to reduce carbon emission.

“These are positive demonstrations, and I welcome more participation so that companies can realise the difference they can make in decarbonisation.”
